Sometimes architecture responds to its environment, other times it responds to the buildings function. In the case of the University Center, architects of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP created a building that would be seen as a hive of student life and activity. Although they succeeded at that, the aesthetic of the structure overall faced resistance from commerce organizations and locals. Today many passers bys still comment on its out of place style or its monolithic tendency at its home location. For this project I chose to reflect those sentiments by portraying it on the surface of the moon as a mysterious monolith discovered by astronauts.
